  1. Creeper

A common hostile mob that silently creeps up, then hisses and explodes, destroying blocks and dealing heavy damage. It appears as a tall green figure with four stubby legs, no arms, and a downturned face. It approaches within three blocks, flashes, and detonates after about 1.5 seconds; lightning creates a stronger charged variant. It was created almost by accident when Notch mixed up dimensions while modeling a pig.

  2. Enderman

A tall, slender neutral mob that spawns in all three dimensions. It has black skin, long limbs, and glowing purple eyes, and it teleports to dodge projectiles or escape water and sunlight. Staring at its face provokes a screaming, shaking attack; its melee strikes hit about twice as hard as a zombie's. It quietly relocates blocks and drops Ender pearls, which players use to reach the End.

  3. Ender Dragon

Minecraft's final boss, a huge hostile monster that attacks as soon as you enter the End. It is black and grey with glowing purple eyes, flying and assaulting players with fireballs and breath attacks. End crystals atop obsidian pillars heal it, so players destroy those first, then strike with bow or sword. Defeating it yields a dragon egg and opens the exit portal to the End Poem and credits.

  4. Warden

A blind monster with 500 health that emerges in the deep dark when sculk shriekers are triggered four times. It has a hulking, sculk-fleshed body with glowing chest souls and horn-like ears, tracking prey by vibrations and scent rather than sight. Its melee hits disable shields, and its sonic boom passes through blocks while ignoring armor. It burrows away and despawns after 60 calm seconds.

  5. Wither

An undead boss mob summoned by arranging soul sand or soul soil in a T shape and placing three wither skeleton skulls on top. It floats on three heads and fires explosive black and blue wither skulls that apply the Wither II effect, becoming immune to arrows and tridents below half health. It is the only source of nether stars, needed to craft beacons, and is the only mob able to destroy obsidian.

  6. Zombie

A common undead melee mob with green skin and tattered clothes that spawns in darkness across the Overworld and burns in sunlight. With 20 health, it shambles toward players, villagers, and iron golems, dropping rotten flesh and occasionally carrots or iron. Baby zombies are faster, zombies can break wooden doors on Hard, and one submerged in water converts into a drowned, making it a versatile early-game threat.

  7. Skeleton

A ranged undead hostile that attacks with a bow, pelting targets with arrows from up to 15 blocks while strafing to avoid melee. Its bony frame burns in daylight, and it drops bones and arrows when killed. Skeletons can ride spiders as jockeys, appear as horsemen during thunderstorm trap events, and convert into strays after standing in powder snow, making it the Overworld's main archer.

  8. Blaze

A fiery hostile mob exclusive to Nether fortresses and the only source of blaze rods, which fuel brewing and Eyes of Ender. It appears as a floating head ringed by rotating rods and emits smoke, hovering while it charges a three-fireball volley that ignites targets. Immune to fire and lava but damaged by water and snowballs, blazes reward careful fortress runs with a key mid-game resource.

  9. Ghast

Ghasts are large, ghostly, tentacled mobs that float through the Nether's basalt deltas, soul sand valleys, and Nether wastes. Only 10 health, but they hover out of melee reach and lob explosive fireballs every few seconds. A fireball can be deflected back to kill one instantly, and the ghast tear it drops is essential for regeneration potions.

  10. Shulker

Shulkers are cube-shaped End mobs that open their purpur-colored shells to reveal a small yellow head and fire homing bullets. Each bullet deals damage and inflicts ten seconds of Levitation, floating victims upward. Closing the shell grants 20 armor points and deflects arrows. They drop shulker shells, used to craft portable shulker boxes.

  11. Evoker

Evokers are gray-skinned, robed illagers who guard woodland mansions and join late raid waves. They keep their arms crossed and cast two spells: erupting rows of armor-piercing fangs from the ground and summoning three flying vexes. They are the only source of the totem of undying, which revives its holder from fatal damage.

  12. Witch

Witches are purple-robed, hat-wearing hostile mobs that resemble villagers and fight entirely with potions. They throw splash potions of Poison, Harming, Slowness, and Weakness while drinking Healing and Fire Resistance to outlast attackers. A witch spawns inside each swamp hut beside a black cat, and a villager struck by lightning permanently turns into one.

  13. Drowned

Drowned are aquatic zombie variants that spawn in oceans and rivers, or when a zombie stays submerged for 30 seconds. They have blue-green skin and may spawn wielding tridents or fishing rods. They attack swimmers with melee and thrown tridents, and baby "gurgles" are smaller and faster. Their ranged trident attacks make them a serious underwater threat.

  14. Piglin Brute

Piglin brutes are hostile, stronger piglin variants that spawn in bastion remnants. They wear dark clothing with a golden arm guard and wield golden axes. Unlike piglins, they ignore gold, never barter or retreat, and attack players on sight with powerful melee strikes. They have 50 health and zombify into zombified piglins after 15 seconds in the Overworld.

  15. Hoglin

Hoglins are hostile, breedable boar-like mobs native to the Nether's crimson forests. They have shaggy brown bodies and large tusks that fling targets into the air. They attack players on sight, flee from warped fungi, and sink in water or lava. They drop porkchops and leather, and transform into zoglins after 15 seconds outside the Nether.

  16. Guardian

Guardians are aquatic hostile mobs that guard ocean monuments. They have orange prismarine-like shells, a single eye, and retractable spikes. They patrol by darting through water and fire a slow-charging laser from their eye; melee attackers take spike damage. They drop prismarine shards and crystals, making them key targets for underwater construction supplies.

  17. Phantom

Phantom is a flying undead hostile mob that spawns at night after you go three in-game days without sleeping or dying. It resembles a manta-like bat with tattered blue-gray wings and glowing green eyes. Idle phantoms circle overhead trailing gray smoke, then swoop down at up to 20 blocks per second to bite. They drop phantom membranes used to repair elytra. Originally 'Mob B,' it won the MINECON Earth 2017 vote and debuted in Update Aquatic.

  18. Vindicator

Vindicator is a hostile illager armed with an iron axe, found in woodland mansions and village raids. Its gray skin and pale eyes make it look like a grim villager. It sprints at targets, landing heavy axe hits that can deal up to 19.5 damage on Hard. It drops emeralds and sometimes its axe. Added in the 1.11 Exploration Update, it becomes a frenzy fighter when renamed 'Johnny.'

  19. Magma Cube

Magma Cube is a fireproof Nether mob that behaves like a slime but is tougher. Its blocky body is dark red-black with a glowing orange-yellow core and eyes. It hops, splits into 2–4 smaller cubes on death, and even tiny ones deal contact damage. Medium and large cubes drop magma cream for fire-resistance potions; frogs eating small cubes yield froglights. It debuted in Beta 1.9 Prerelease as a Nether retexture of the slime.

  20. Slime

Slime is a cube-shaped green hostile mob that hops after players and attacks on contact. It appears in three natural sizes; larger slimes split into 2–4 smaller ones when killed, while only tiny slimes drop slimeballs. Slimes spawn in rare underground 'slime chunks' and in swamps, most often during a full moon. They lack pathfinding, so they blindly bounce toward targets. The mob dates back to Alpha v1.0.11 in 2010.

  21. Cave Spider

A smaller, dark-blue spider variant that spawns from monster spawners in abandoned mineshafts. With only 12 hit points it dies quickly, but on Normal and Hard difficulty its bite applies Poison, dealing extra damage that cannot be fully blocked by armor. It can squeeze through one-block-wide, half-block-tall gaps, letting it chase players into tight tunnels. Being an arthropod, it takes bonus damage from Bane of Arthropods weapons.

  22. Husk

A desert-dwelling zombie variant that keeps its flesh pale and dry. Unlike normal zombies, husks do not burn in sunlight, making daytime desert travel riskier. Its unarmed strikes inflict Hunger, draining a player's food bar and slowing natural healing. It has 20 hit points and 2 armor, and baby husks move faster while hitting just as hard. Killing it yields rotten flesh and occasionally iron, carrots, or potatoes.

  23. Silverfish

A small gray, insect-like hostile mob with black eyes that hides inside infested stone and deepslate blocks in strongholds and mountains. Breaking or hitting one alerts nearby silverfish, which burst from their blocks and swarm. With only 8 hit points and weak bites, they rely on numbers and wall-seeing pathfinding. As arthropods they take extra damage from Bane of Arthropods, and they drop no items, only experience.

  24. Zombified Piglin

A neutral, undead piglin that wanders the Nether wielding a golden sword. It ignores players until one of its kind is attacked, then the whole nearby group turns hostile and swarms the aggressor. It has 20 hit points, 2 armor, and drops rotten flesh, gold nuggets, or rarely gold ingots. Piglins that enter the Overworld zombify into this form after 15 seconds.
